The Solomon House |

From a 1978 Post Card by Ed Oliver and produced with his
permission. This old Caymanian house no longer exists. Mr. Ed
tells me it belonged to someone named Solomon and was in Savannah, where
there is now all new developments. I know Uncle Ed, (as I
affectionately call him), probably thinks I lost interest or never would
have finished, but I am so proud of this incredible work of art which took
me two years to finish! The photograph does
no justice to the vibrant colours of every description! The limes on
the trees, the flowers, the croutons, the palms......the palms.......and
the lovely little wooden house with the zinc roof, and open windows and
doors. Again, the open arms of the welcome of the people of the
Cayman Islands.
I began this piece in the summer of 2000. It was
completed after countless hours on October 19, 2002......two years of
work, then rest. No more than ten pieces of silk on canvas, the
piece is entirely threadpainted with the finest Janome embroidery thread.
The piece is quite large and comes framed in natural mohagony with white
fabric moulding and gold fillet.
Now I wonder........which is my masterpiece????
